Meet Carolyn Rosewood - Author

Carolyn is a PRO member of Romance Writers of America. Although her passion is for writing romance she has a literary dark side too...And, hot off the presses, Carol's short story, 'Tell Her', has just been published in the latest edition of MUSE - the online literary magazine!

Julia: Why do you write Romance?

Carolyn: Short answer: I believe in the power of love. Long answer: I’ve been reading romance novels since the age of 19, and I was hooked with my very first one. Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers. I enjoy reading about the journey of two people falling in love. It’s a crazy roller coaster ride, but oh so sweet and sexy!

Julia: You are throwing a dinner party and can invite four fictional characters. Who would you invite, and why?

Carolyn: Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice) because I love the way she spoke her mind despite the rigid conventions of her day. Dr Martin Arrowsmith (Arrowsmith) because it broke my heart when he couldn’t save Leora, despite his studies, and he gave up everything to pursue what he really loved to do. Carrie White (Carrie)
HA! Wouldn’t that be a hoot? And Atticus Finch(To Kill A Mockingbird) just because.

Julia: If you were stranded on a desert island which book would you like to have with you?

Carolyn: Stephen King’s The Stand. The uncut version.

Julia: What do you consider to be good writing?

Carolyn: Characters that pull me into their world and make me not want to leave them. I love books that draw me so into their world I lose sleep because I want to keep reading.

Julia: You recently tried your hand at writing erotic horror. How did you approach the task? Would you consider delving into this genre again?

Carolyn: I channelled Stephen King. Seriously, I tried to. Then I dove into my dark side and asked what if? I would love to write more of this genre. It combines both genres I love to read. But by combining horror with erotica you can get away with making your characters suffer a bit more.

Julia: What do you hope your readers will take away from your writing?

Carolyn: I hope my readers will love my characters and not want to leave them at the end of the novel. I hope readers lose sleep because they can’t stop reading, and that they would read my books a second time.

Julia: What are your goals for the future?

Carolyn: I want to be published! I want to write books people love, and keep doing what I love to do. I want to write.

Julia: If you were to write a book about your own life, what would the title be?

Carolyn: How the Hell Did I Get Here? Seriously, did you ever look around and wonder that? I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and then I came home and went to nursing school. Huh? And along the way I met my perfect hubby, David, and gave birth to an amazing, beautiful daughter, Nicole. But I’ve wanted to write since I was eight years old. Took me long enough to figure that out, you know?

Many thanks to Carolyn... definitely one to watch on the Romance scene...and perhaps she'll lurk around in the shadowy side of life more often too!
